Japan is a dream destination for dessert lovers. From fluffy soufflé pancakes to towering parfaits, mochi donuts and French-style crepes, the country offers some of the most creative sweets in the world. After traveling across Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, these are my favorite dessert spots the ones I personally recommend if you want something memorable, not just Instagram hype.

🍨 Karafuneya Coffee Shop (Kyoto) – The Ultimate Parfait Haven
If you love over-the-top parfaits, Karafuneya Coffee Shop in Kyoto is a must-visit. This dessert café is famous for its massive and creative parfaits, with over 150 varieties to choose from! Some of their extravagant parfaits can reach up to 35 centimeters high, layered with fresh fruits, ice cream, whipped cream, and other indulgent toppings.
📍 Location: Kyoto

🍞 The French Toast Factory (Akihabara, Tokyo) – The Best Fluffy French Toast
For fluffy and buttery French toast, The French Toast Factory in Yodobashi Akiba is the go-to spot. Their thick-cut toast is crispy on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth soft on the inside. Served with syrup, whipped cream, and fresh fruit, it’s the perfect indulgence after exploring Akihabara.
📍 Location: Akihabara, Tokyo

🥞 Flippers (Multiple Locations) – The Legendary Soufflé Pancakes
When it comes to soufflé pancakes, Flippers is one of Japan’s most famous spots. Their light, airy, and jiggly pancakes are incredibly soft and practically melt in your mouth. Topped with fresh fruit, syrup, and whipped cream, these pancakes are a must-try for any dessert lover.
📍 Locations: Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka

🍩 Donut Stands – Crème Brûlée Donuts
Craving something unique? Donut Stands offers crème brûlée donuts, which combine the crisp caramelized sugar topping of a crème brûlée with the soft, airy texture of a donut. Each bite gives you the perfect crunch, followed by a rich and creamy custard-like filling.
📍 Location: Various spots across Japan

🍩 Mister Donut – Japan’s Favorite Donut Chain
No list of Japanese dessert spots would be complete without Mister Donut. This legendary donut chain is known for its Pon de Ring, a chewy and bouncy donut made from mochi flour. They also offer seasonal and limited-edition flavors inspired by Japanese ingredients like matcha and red bean.
📍 Locations: Nationwide

🍪 Cookie Time (Takeshita Dori, Tokyo) – The Ultimate Cookie Experience
For freshly baked, gooey cookies, head to Cookie Time in Harajuku’s Takeshita Dori. Originally from New Zealand, this cookie shop serves warm, chunky cookies loaded with chocolate chips, nuts, and other mix-ins. They also offer cookie milkshakes for the ultimate sugar rush.
📍 Location: Harajuku, Tokyo

🍓 Crêperie Alcyon (Osaka) – The Best French Crepes in Japan
For a taste of authentic French-style crepes, visit Crêperie Alcyon in Osaka. This cozy café serves both sweet and savory crepes, made with traditional French techniques. Their classic Nutella and banana crepe is a favorite, but they also offer savory galettes for those who prefer a more balanced option.
📍 Location: Osaka
All of them are saved in my Japan dessert map, along with nearby cafés and food spots.
